After 2 years, Naomi Osaka is back in the final of the Australian Open. Winner of 3 grand slams. Very strong on the hard surface. On paper, the odds clearly point to the 2019 champion.
The Japanese is doing great in the tournament. She’s serving well, her dominant game is paying off. On her way to the final, she scored valuable scalps against Muguruza and S. Williams. Especially in the semi-final against Serena, she showed that she is in great shape.
She practically gave the tennis legend no chance and advanced to the 2nd Grand Slam final in a row. She has a great opportunity to win the fourth Grand Slam of her career.
Jennifer Brady will be her final opponent. The American made the perfect use of a favourable draw to reach a Grand Slam final for the first time. Her aggressive tennis with her excellent serve is making the tournament a success.
However, the semi-final against Muchova showed that advancing to the final is the ultimate for her. To win the title, she would have to raise her game to an even higher level.
Interesting facts:
Osaka leads 2:1 in the singles matches
If she wins the title, Osaka will move up to No. 2 in the WTA rankings, while Brady’s triumph would move her up to No. 12
Every time the Japanese has reached the quarterfinals at a Grand Slam, she has won the title
Japan has won 13 matches in a row at the Grand Slams
Both tennis players play aggressively. They’ll want to end the exchanges quickly with winning strokes. The Japanese should outplay the American and go for the title. It would be a huge surprise if that didn’t happen. Osaka is currently the best on hard court and she’ll show why on Saturday.
