At the ongoing World Cup, Moukoko became the youngest player in the history of the German national team to play in a major global event at the age of 18 years and 3 days.
Moukoko had previously become the Bundesliga’s youngest player, its youngest scorer and also the youngest player to reach ten goals in the league.
It is therefore no surprise that the Cameroonian native is being netted by Europe’s big clubs. According to The Athletic, Chelsea are currently the closest to acquiring the young striker.
The London club would like to buy Moukoko in the summer, when he will be free. However, it is not out of the question that the German international could arrive in the winter, which would mean a financial reward for Dortmund.
Chelsea have basically only two footballers in attack. The first is the already thirty-three-year-old Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the other is the inexperienced Armando Broja. Kai Havertz can also play on the wing.
Moukoko is only under contract at Dortmund until the summer of 2023. It’s a bit baffling that Borussia didn’t try to extend their gem earlier.
However, Dortmund director Hans-Joachim Watzke has said that he sees no logical conclusion other than extending Moukoko’s contract. His form this year, a heavier playing load and the fact that he feels comfortable at BVB all play a role.
Moukoko has the most goals and assists of any BVB player in the current Bundesliga season. He has started all six games in the Champions League group stage.
