Barcelona and Lionel Messi. A connection that could have lasted forever. But it didn’t and the legendary Argentine surprisingly left the Catalan capital last year. But perhaps not for good. In fact, president Joan Laporta has admitted that he wants him back at Camp Nou.
The Catalan big club was in big trouble. According to many, it still is. The reason for this is financial mismanagement, which has led the club into high debt. However, Barcelona’s management is doing its best to make the club competitive immediately.
As a result, many reinforcements have already arrived at the club, including the star Robert Lewandowski. Meanwhile, due to the poor economic situation, the phenomenal Lionel Messi left Barcelona when his contract expired and the club could not afford to offer him a new one.
Practically since Messi’s departure to PSG, there has been talk about when and in what position he might return to Barcelona. Messi himself has confirmed his return to Barcelona several times in the future. Quite possibly it could still happen in a player role.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has now commented on the whole situation. He also commented again on Messi’s departure. He said that he had to do what was best for the club at the time and thus had to put Barcelona above Messi.
Now, however, he himself wishes for his return. “He’s the best player in our history and I will do everything possible so that he can finish his career in a Barcelona jersey. I want to bring him back. It won’t be easy, but I think with the right strategy it could be done,” Goal quotes him as saying.
Laporta, among others, is aware that Messi’s end at Barcelona was not the best: “It was a difficult time. We had to make a decision and put the club above the best player in history.”
Messi is currently under contract at PSG for one more year. But after that, he could be a free agent and Barcelona could be in a position where it would not be impossible to get him back.
