With another summer transfer window comes another Mbappé transfer saga. The French international had to tell the club in a letter that he does not intend to activate his contract extension clause after the 2023/2024 season and is going to leave the club for free. The club’s management does not like that and wants to sell the player this summer. However, it has now come to light that there is an option that the star player prefers.

Although several clubs have been linked with Mbappé’s name, it is quite clear where the Frenchman wants to head. To Real Madrid, of which Mbappé has been a fan since childhood.

However, the Madrid club have made it clear that they have no intention of buying Mbappé, mainly because they cannot afford him. The PSG striker would therefore have to come for free, which is possible just after next season when his contract in France expires.

The option of letting such a player walk away without financial appreciation is not an option for the Parisian management, and they have pointedly said that Mbappé will either activate the clause that extends his contract by a year or leave this summer.

Neither side wanted to budge and, in fact, still won’t. The situation seemed to escalate and no one seemed to know what the denouement might be. At least until now. There is, in fact, a third option that the club has proposed to the players. However, it’s not a convenient option.

If Mbappé leaves for free, the French club will be at a loss of around 200 million euros. And that is the amount the club must save on other players if Mbappé wants to stay for a year and then leave.

This means that PSG must sell several players in order for the club to break even. Of course, it is not only the sale of a player that saves money, but also the salary the player receives.

Either way, like the annual Mbappé saga, football fans are already eagerly watching this one. Some foreign sources claim that the denouement is expected to come as early as the beginning of the summer. Whether this is true or the saga will drag on all summer like last year, we will probably find out in the coming weeks.
