Will Martinek stay in the Russian ACA? We need to find common ground and compromise, he says
Michal Martinek will move from the Octagon to the prestigious Russian organization ACA in 2020. He had three fights there, but there is no question of another one yet. Although he has a valid contract, he will not fight in Russia and Belarus now. What about a return to the Czech Republic?
Michal Martinek will move from the Octagon to the prestigious Russian organization ACA in 2020. He had three fights there, but there is no question of another one yet. Although he has a valid contract, he will not fight in Russia and Belarus now. What about a return to the Czech Republic?
Thirty-one-year-old Michal Martinek said goodbye to the Oktagon organization in 2019, when he defeated Viktor Peshta at the Oktagon 15 tournament.
He then moved to the Russian organization ACA, where he now has a record of 1::2.
The reason is simple, in the current situation, his morals simply won’t allow him to fight in Russia and Belarus, countries that are at war with Ukraine.
“We said that until the situation calms down, we don’t want to fight. At the moment we are looking at some alternatives, it’s quite difficult. The ACA has always treated me well, everything was as it should be. But at the moment it’s not the way I want to identify with,” Martínek said in an interview with Sport.cz.
The logical question is whether a move to another organization, perhaps back to the Octagon or to the RFA, is an option.
“I am bound by my contract with ACA and we have to find a common ground and compromise so that I as a fighter can fight where I feel comfortable. We have to come to an agreement first. It doesn’t matter what I’m attracted to or not attracted to right now, first we have to come to an agreement with the association I’m currently in,” he added.
So everything will most likely depend on how the conflict in Ukraine develops. Instead of solving these problems, the experienced fighter may be preparing for the wedding that now awaits him.
