The French Open is just around the corner. Before that, however, Jiří Veselý will play in the tournament in Parma, Italy. Will the Czech tennis number one have a successful dress rehearsal for the top of the clay court season?

Recently, Jiří Veselý has not been doing well at all. Since his second-round elimination in the Australian Open against Pablo Carreno-Busta, the 27-year-old has played in six tournaments.

However, his best result is the second round, which he scored at the Montpellier (hard surface) and Oeiras (clay) events. In Miami, Cagliari, Monte Carlo and Heilbronn, the Davis Cup winner dropped out in the first round.

The last chance to improve his form before the start of the French Open will come at the tournament in Parma. Here he will face the 71st player of the ATP ranking in the first round against the American Steve Johnson.

Among the biggest favourites of the tournament are Lorenzo Sonego, Benoit Paire, Jan-Lennard Struff, Reilly Opelka and Richard Gasquet. The dark horse could be Yoshihito Nishioka, who will play the role of the seeded eight.

In addition to the trophy, the winner of the tournament will receive 47,000 euros, which is roughly 1.2 million in Czech crowns. At the same time, he will add 250 points to the ATP ranking.
