Who will succeed Federer, Nadal or Djokovic? Tennis fans have been asking this question for several years, and now they may get their answer. Holger Rune, whose role models included Roger Federer, could become the world number one in the coming years.
Holger Rune was born at the end of April 2003. Despite his young age, he is already ranked eighteenth in the ATP rankings. If he manages to win the tournament in Paris, he could even be among the top ten tennis players in the world.
The Danish tennis player is having a great season, having managed to win the challenger in Sanremo, Italy in April. Just a few weeks later, he managed to dominate the prestigious tournament in Munich, where he managed to beat Alexander Zverev, among others.
Rune continued his great performance on clay in Lyon, where he reached the semi-finals. His quarter-final appearance at the French Open was not a big surprise, as he also found a way to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas.
But then came a series of bad results, which ended after the US Open. In Sofia, Bulgaria, Patrick Mouratoglou’s charge reached the final, and he recorded the same result in Basel. He reached the trophy in Stockholm. During these three tournaments, the Danish youngster defeated many of the world’s top players.
We can see that the results of the last few weeks are no coincidence in Paris. During his time in the French capital, he has knocked out Wawrinka, Hurkacz and Rublev. In the semi-finals, he will face the current world number one Carlos Alcaraz.
Next week he will be waiting for the ATP Next Gen Finals, where he will undoubtedly be one of the biggest candidates for the overall victory. If he carries his form into the upcoming season, we can expect that the Tournament of Champions will not pass him by.
However, we mustn’t forget his negative side, which is too much rage on the court. But that could improve as he gets older.
