Will Guardiola equal Ferguson’s treble? 3 reasons why Manchester City will end Arsenal’s title hopes today
A match that will very likely decide who will be enjoying the Premier League next month. Moreover, Pep Guardiola is eyeing a third consecutive league title, which would put him on par with the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, who won England’s top competition three times in a row. Can the Spanish strategist do it too?
A match that will very likely decide who will be enjoying the Premier League next month. Moreover, Pep Guardiola is eyeing a third consecutive league title, which would put him on par with the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, who won England’s top competition three times in a row. Can the Spanish strategist do it too?
The experience of the final title fight
In his first season (2016/17) in the Premier League, Guardiola was on a roll and led the Citizens to third place, then clearly dominated by Chelsea, who left Tottenham behind. But after that, the Spanish coach’s team dictated the pace of the game in England.
Manchester City dominated the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons, and after finishing second in the 2019/20 season, the Citizens won two more Premier League winners’ cups. And now the collective from the north of England has a great chance to complete the treble.
Arsenal still lead the league by 5 points, but Manchester City have two games to spare, so all they have to do is not lose in the return leg and Guardiola and co. will have everything in their hands.
Given the aforementioned successes in recent years, it’s very likely they’ll get the job done. Experience is clearly on their side, which is matched by the fact that the Gunners have been running out of breath in recent days.
Mikel Arteta has put together a great team for this season, but we are still talking about a very young squad that is still maturing and its peak moment may yet come. It is these tough battles that will give them a lot of experience for the future.
Quality
Guardiola has been building his team for many years and it shows in the games! Dominant performances that are also stable. In addition, Guardiola has managed to fine tune the form exactly as needed.
Apart from the Premier League, Manchester City still have a semi-final against Real Madrid and an FA Cup final against Manchester United, which could play into the hands of Arsenal, who only have 6 league games to play.
Unless some injuries come and the team humbly goes match by match for victory, the quality of the Citizens is so great that it is realistic to win all three trophies – Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup.
Form
While the formerly great machine called Gunners is slowly stuttering, having won only three points from the last three games – Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton, the Citizens have only failed to win a game in Munich from the last 12 games.
Thus, the team is in great shape, avoiding injuries and the mood in the cabin is definitely great before the crucial duel with Arsenal. Of course, this can change very quickly, but everything is playing into the hands of Guardiola and his gang, who would be very close to the top in the event of a victory tonight.
