Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United? This is a current topic that is being discussed not only in Spain. The English club is reportedly offering to triple his current salary in a bid to get the French striker into their team during the January transfer window.
Manchester United, who are currently experiencing their worst start to a season in 61 years, are reportedly taking a big step to strengthen their squad by targeting the acquisition of one of Atlético Madrid’s key men in January, who is none other than Antoine Griezmann, according to El Nacional.
The Red Devils are only sixth in the Premier League and face an early exit from the Champions League group stage. As a result, coach Erik ten Hag wants to strengthen his team significantly during the January transfer window.
In a bid to acquire the French striker, Manchester United representatives reportedly engaged in discussions with Griezmann’s entourage during a trip to Spain. The plan to bring him to Old Trafford involves tripling his current salary at Atlético Madrid with an estimated weekly earnings of around $435,000.
According to reports, Griezmann has a $27 million release clause, making him an economically viable target for Manchester United. With this transfer, the club wants to address its current playing situation and is expected to be a pivotal solution for the spring transfer window.
meanwhile, the 32-year-old striker definitely returned to the Spanish capital this summer when Atlético paid Barcelona €20 million for him. And Griezmann has certainly benefited from that, having already scored 12 goals in 16 games.
The French striker recently managed to equal Adrián Escudero’s scoring record of 169 goals for Atlético Madrid.
The greatest in this respect was Luis Aragonés, who scored 173 goals for Atlético. Griezmann is now just short of the record.
However, he will still have plenty of opportunities to equal or even surpass this record before the end of the year. Then it remains to be seen whether Griezmann will try another big challenge. The Barcelona one didn’t work out at all.
