Borussia Dortmund has found a proven recipe for buying new reinforcements? It seems to be the case. The Westphalian outfit are once again hunting for players in the UK, specifically in Manchester City’s reserves.
Borussia Dortmund has found a proven recipe for buying new reinforcements? It seems to be the case. The Westphalian outfit are once again hunting for players in the UK, specifically in Manchester City’s reserves.
The year was 2017. A certain Jadon Sancho arrives in Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City’s youth team for 20 million euros. The then-unknown youngster would soon become a key player in the Westphalian club’s jersey, leaving four years later for Manchester United for 85 million.
Meanwhile, in 2020, young midfielder Jude Bellingham will arrive in Dortmund for €25 million from Birmingham City. He too will quickly break into the starting line-up and become a key player for the club. He even earned a place in the national team and played in the World Cup.
Currently, Bellingham’s value is estimated by Transfermarkt at €110 million and it is certain that the current Bundesliga leader will make a big profit on him when he leaves.
And now another similar story is emerging. Borussia are on the lookout for the captain of Manchester City’s reserve team. It’s defensive midfielder Shea Charles, now 19 years old.
Charles hasn’t played for the Citizens’ A-team yet, he would certainly get an opportunity in Dortmund. Incidentally, the two specific cases mentioned earlier are a great demonstration that Borussia can be a great start to a career.
It’s worth noting, though, that Charles already has three starts in the Northern Ireland senior national team jersey. Still, according to German Bild, he is aware that making a name for himself at the Etihad Stadium will be extremely challenging.
That’s why, despite his contract running until 2027, he is willing to listen to offers and is not averse to the challenge of the Bundesliga. The fact that Charles is also able to play outside midfield in defence, either in the centre or on the right flank, is also satisfactory for Dortmund.
