On Thursday, David Moyes celebrated not only a valuable win in the London derby against Arsenal, but also four years as the Hammers’ coach. His current contract runs until the end of this season. But speculation is that the 60-year-old coach could see out a new contract.
West Ham won the game against Arsenal thanks to goals from Soucek and Mavropanos. “I’ve got a great team of players that we’ve built up over four years and at the moment we’ve gone from a fairly low level to a decent point and if we can maintain that, it will be great,” Moyes praised after the game.
West Ham are currently in 6th place in the English Premier League. Last year, they won the Conference League. It was the club’s first European trophy since 1965.
It’s no wonder that the club’s management wants the coach to stay. According to SkySports, negotiations are already underway for a new contract, which should be valid for two and a half years – that is, until the summer of 2026.
“We are preparing to negotiate. I don’t think any of us want it to be too rushed,” the same source quoted the Hammers manager as saying. “We will come to an agreement, I don’t see too many problems, ” he added.
“Originally we wanted to ensure West Ham were not relegated from the Premier League but we have improved and are doing much better,” says the experienced Scottish coach.
West Ham are doing well in the European Cups as well as the Premier League. With 15 points, West Ham dominated their Europa League group and are heading to the eighth finals of the competition. Their only loss in the group stage came at Olympiakos, where they lost 2-1.
“We are fine. I get on well with the management. They are enthusiastic. They are happy that the team is doing well in the Premier League and in Europe,” concludes the former long-time Everton coach.
