UFC boss Dana White has faced a lot of criticism in recent days. There is even talk that he could be forced to resign from his position. The reason for this is a video that showed White hitting his wife. Now the first call for his end in the organization has come.
A New Year’s Eve party in Mexico? That’s one the family of Dana White won’t soon forget. The UFC boss first slapped his wife Anne, then slapped her twice himself.
The whole situation was caught on video and went viral. It was seen by millions of people around the world and the scandal was on. All the more so because in the past White has claimed that hitting a woman is an unforgivable act.
In fact, he repeated those words after the video became public. He has been married to Anne for almost 30 years, has known her since childhood, and they have three children together. They have already seen the video, so Dana and Anne apologized to them and reportedly talked to them about the situation.
Alcohol played a role in the whole situation. At least, that’s what both parties involved in the situation are saying. The wife of the UFC boss herself claims that Dana has never physically attacked her before and that things got out of control on both sides.
Despite the quick statements and apologies, White has received a lot of criticism. Not only from the media, but also from some UFC fighters and the public.
The California Women’s Legislative Committee is now even calling for White’s resignation as UFC president. “We are people of action, we are allies against violence, advocates for women and parents like you. That’s why we need to take a clear step. We call for Mr. White’s immediate removal as head of the UFC,” MMA Fighting quotes the published letter as saying.
It’s worth noting that the entire situation, should White not step down, may affect his actions should any of the organization’s fighters commit similar behavior. Furthermore, if he were to commit to punishing a fighter, he would be perceived as a hypocrite. The letter points this out as well.
Senator Nancy Skinner has also signed the letter, which only adds to its seriousness. It will now be interesting to see how White stands up to the additional and mounting pressure.
