Osimhen’s relationship with Napoli is going through an awkward period following a sequence of events at the club. But coach Mauricio Pochettino sees him as the ideal candidate to take Chelsea forward. So will the Nigerian striker break the English outfit’s transfer record?
Chelsea wants to snap up Osimhen
The 24-year-old Nigerian international is reportedly tipped for a move to Stamford Bridge, according to ESPN and the Telegraph. However, Chelsea would 99% break their transfer record if they acquire Osimhen.
However, Blues owner Todd Boehly has already broken the £100m mark twice. First when he acquired Enzo Fernandes from Benfica and then again for Moises Caicedo from Brighton.
Chelsea are hoping that the former icon and mainstay of the club could help them in their transfer negotiations. Former Blues defender Kalidou Koulibaly is good friends with Osimhen and is still in contact with his former west London club.
The report says that the Al Hilal star could be a useful intermediary to help Chelsea put themselves in a better position when negotiating with Napoli.
Osimhen has been in great form despite his troubles with Napoli, scoring six goals in 11 games. He scored 31 goals in 39 games last season and helped the Partenopei win their first Serie A title in 33 years.
Will the Nigerian head to London and break their transfer record?
He is only 24 years old, which makes him a desirable commodity for big clubs, although he has huge goal scoring potential. His current market value, according to reputable website Transfermarkt, is €120 million.
It is not an open secret that Osminhen wanted to leave the club recently. Things have been sour between him and Napoli more than once, as his current employer posted a social media video of his missed penalty with a mocking trend.
There were even reports of the player filing a lawsuit against the club, who was most affected by a video on Tik Tok of him demanding a penalty, which he subsequently missed.
