On the first day of the new Champions League season, we will see two giants clash. Bayern Munich will take on Barcelona, but the Catalans don’t have good memories of their last match. Will we see another debacle?

The season before last in the Champions League was marked by a coronavirus pandemic, so the play-offs of the millionaire competition were unusually played in one match. In Portugal at the Estadio da Luz, traditional rivals Barcelona and Bayern Munich faced off in the quarterfinals.

The Germans got off to a torrid start, with Müller sending them into the lead in the 4th minute. However, Barcelona equalised three minutes later when an Alba centre was knocked into his own net by Alaba. But Bayern quickly took the lead again, hitting the Catalans with three strikes in nine minutes.

First, Perisic scored in the 22nd minute and Gnabry increased the score in the 27th minute. In the 31st minute, Müller again increased the score to 4-1, and it was then time to go to the booths.

In the 57th minute, Suárez gave the Catalans hope, but from then on it was all Bayern again. Six minutes later, Kimmich increased the score to 5: 2 after a wonderful action by Davies, but the biggest humiliation came for Barcelona even later.

In the 75th minute, the unwanted Coutinho jumped on the field, who was sent on loan by the Blaugranas to Bayern. The Brazilian first crossed for Lewandowski’s goal in the 82nd minute, then scored two goals himself in the 85th and 89th minutes for his employer. The 2:8 result was a huge embarrassment for Barcelona.

Barcelona would like to give their opponents a rematch after a year. But they no longer have Lionel Messi, who has left for PSG. Luis Suárez is also no longer in the team, Antoinne Griezmann left two weeks ago and both are now playing for Atlético Madrid.

Bayern is not a pleasant opponent for the Culés players. In the last six matches, the Munich team has won five times, and the overall score is 20:7 in Bayern’s favour. Can Piqué and co. finally overcome their unpopular opponent?
