Will Barcelona keep Xavi after this season? The club is trying to convince the legend to stay at the club: We have a long-term plan

Barcelona have another league game under their belt and have managed it relatively smoothly. They beat Las Palmas at home and are still trying to put pressure on Real Madrid. Beyond that, however, they are sorting out who will lead the club next season. Will it still be Xavi Hernández? It’s probably not impossible.

Thirtieth game, twentieth win and 67 points, yet Barcelona are five points behind first-placed Real Madrid, with the Spanish capital’s side still having Sunday’s game with Bilbao to play. Even so, the Blaugranas are not giving up.

On Saturday, they beat Las Palmas 1-0 in a relatively uneventful game. The only goal of the match was scored by Raphinha, who also had a nasty run in the first half when he was badly fouled by the opponent’s goalkeeper Alvaro Valles, who also saw a red card for his intervention.

Las Palmas never once threatened the Catalan side’s goal in the match. Barcelona were in control for most of the match, just waiting to finally break through the opposition’s defence.

But besides how the club is doing in the league, the management also has to deal with the future of the team. Xavi has previously announced that he will leave the team in the summer. The search for a replacement does not seem to be going according to plan, or it is possible that Barcelona simply do not want anyone else as coach. At least that’s what the latest reports suggest.

Barcelona wants to keep Xavi

The club’s vice-president Rafa Yuste publicly stated on Saturday that the club is trying to convince Xavi to continue staying with the team. After all, now under him Barcelona holds a streak of eleven games without a loss, they can still win, for example, the Champions League.

“I will try to convince him, but it’s his personal decision. There are still some games left, the Champions League… We have to let him enjoy it. I hope and wish he continues because we are talking about a big project, not just one or two seasons,” Fabrizio Romano quotes Yuste.

However, beIN Sports has reported that Barcelona are considering another option besides keeping Xavi as coach, which envisages a future for the legend at the Catalan club. Hernández could become one of the club’s ambassadors and only take on another position.
