Barcelona could snap up two really big signings in the summer transfer window. Ilkay Gündoğan has been interested in moving to the Catalan club for some time now, while Iñigo Martínez from Bilbao has also reportedly agreed to a transfer according to a verbal agreement.
Spanish media have reported in the last few hours that Barcelona are reportedly close to acquiring two big names – Ilkay Gündoğan and Iñigo Martínez.
This is also reported by the well-known ESPN website. Martínez has even already had an agreement with Barcelona for this future transfer, both players are out of contract at the end of the current season at their current clubs.
Moreover, the thirty-one-year-old Martínez has been tracked by the Catalan giant for several years and has increased his interest in recent weeks.
Considering that he is available for free at the end of the season and he has agreed to the transfer himself, this potential transfer can almost be taken as a done deal. The only problem may be the salary of the player himself. This is because Barca cannot afford an expensive signing due to their financial situation.
The same is true in the case of Gündoğan, but as ESPN reports, negotiations with the thirty-two-year-old midfielder are not at as advanced a stage as they are with Martínez. The Gelsenkirchen native is simply a viable option for Barca to strengthen the midfield in the summer.
At the beginning of December, even Onda Cero journalist Alfredo Martínez reported that Xavi had chosen Gündoğan to succeed Sergio Busquets.
His agent then reportedly regularly attends team training sessions and in February he had already met with the sporting management team consisting of Mateu Alemany, Jordi Cruyff, Jordi Masip and Franc Carbó.
Last year, Barcelona’s management was forced to look specifically for free agents due to the poor financial situation. It should be similar this year, and in order for the two aforementioned to come in, someone will have to come out of the woodwork.
