Nine league games, one loss, and that was to Real Madrid. It’s a slightly different story, more of a horror story, in the Champions League – four games, one win, one draw and two losses. Moreover, in the millionaire’s competition, the club is facing the threat of finishing in the group stage, which is a problem for the club.
Barcelona is thus increasingly addressing the immediate future. Advancing in the Champions League has been counted on in the Catalan capital because of the importance of revenue from this competition. At the press conference before the next competitive match, coach Xavi therefore faced unexpected questions.
In particular, he was asked whether he would understand if the club put someone else in his place. His answer was more than surprising. He said he would have been sympathetic to the move.
“It’s football. People in the street raise their fists at me in a sign of encouragement. Now we have to focus and face reality. I am always positive. With the effort of the club and the team we have, we have to fight for trophies,” Xavi let himself be heard at the press conference.
“If we don’t win, there will be consequences. Starting with me. If we don’t win, another coach will step in. I will give everything to make the team work,” he added.
Already on Thursday, Barcelona will want to make amends for the weekend’s faltering at home against Villarreal. Bilbao will challenge it at Camp Nou at the weekend, then the Catalans will try to fight for points against Bayern Munich a week later.
