Barbora Krejcikova is having a breakthrough season in singles. This is proven by, among other things, her sensational triumph at the French Open, thanks to which she moved into the top 20 players on the WTA circuit. But what are her chances at Wimbledon?
Twenty-five-year-old Barbora Krejcikova is one of the best tennis players of 2021, with 3,258 points, and only world number one Ashleigh Barty has more. Thanks to this, she is very close to participating in the Champions Tournament.
In addition to the aforementioned triumph at the French Open, her coach Aleš Kartus’ charge managed to win the tournament in Strasbourg. Other successes include the tournament in Dubai, where Krejcikova reached the final.
But what are Krejcikova’s chances at Wimbledon, the pinnacle of the grass season? Considering that she played her last competitive singles match on grass in 2017, they won’t be very high.
During her professional career, Krejcikova has only played five matches on grass, losing four of them. So it is not surprising that this will be her debut singles appearance at the All England Club.
But it has one advantage. If the Ivančice native surprises again, she could move up significantly in the WTA rankings. She won’t be defending any points from last year, which is not the case for her opponents.
But it will be different in doubles, where she and Kateryna Siniakova will be the top seeds. Here our players will have a great chance to succeed, as they dominated the oldest tennis tournament in 2018.
