Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has lost his captain’s armband and quite possibly his future at Arsenal. The talk of his departure is getting louder and louder. Where could he potentially head?
The Gabonese striker didn’t exactly have an ideal last season, but it’s not much better in the current one either. On top of that, he lost his captain’s armband due to his behaviour and his possible departure is increasingly being discussed.
Pierre Emerick Aubameyang is already 32 years old, he is in his fifth and possibly last season at Arsenal, even though he is under contract until 2023. His former teammate has also recommended his departure.
Although Bakary Sako is now a free agent, he has met Aubameyang in the past in a Saint-Étienne jersey, where he also last played. And it is at the traditional outfit that he would like to see his Gabonese friend in January.
“I’m still trying to convince him to come back to France. Wouldn’t it be great to see him at Saint-Étienne again? I think we all want that. I’m very serious. I don’t know if it’s possible, but I hope it could work out,” Sako let slip.
Saint-Étienne have been struggling in recent seasons, experiencing one of their worst seasons ever in the current one, and find themselves in last place in the Ligue 1 table. Rescue seems to be in sight.
And according to Saka, Aubameyang could be the hero who could avert the traditional team’s downfall. After all, it was at Saint-Étienne that he started his career after failed stints at AC Milan, Lille and Monaco.
In two and a half years, the Gabonese midfielder has played 97 games for Saint-Étienne with a record of 41 goals and 25 assists. He then headed to Borussia Dortmund, where he built on his performances and has been an Arsenal player since January 2018.
