Will Andrés Iniesta push for Xavi’s job? Barcelona legend reveals his plans for the future
The return of Andrés Iniesta would clearly be appreciated by FC Barcelona fans. After such a turbulent period, it is finally starting to dawn on better times with coach Xavi and the new signings. The return of Andrés Iniesta would clearly be appreciated by FC Barcelona fans. After such a turbulent period, it is finally starting to dawn on better times with coach Xavi and the new signings. The former outstanding attacking midfielder would then be the icing on the cake. So is his return in the cards?
Iniesta left Barcelona in the summer of 2018, whereupon he headed to Japan, where he has been with local club Vissel Kobe until now, even in the role of captain.
However, the team, which also includes Sergi Samper and Bojan Krkic, is not doing so well. After 31 games, Vissel is in 12th place.
They have made a horrible start to this season, and recently, after the arrival of the new coach Takayuki Yoshida, who was scouting the team until then, they have been doing much better. Vissel won 10 times out of 19 games.
However, Iniesta hasn’t played since August 6 and logically everyone in Europe started to wonder if the now 38-year-old Spaniard was going to come back.
Iniesta spoke about this topic in an interview with Gazzetta: ” I will continue at Vissel Kobe for one more year and then we will see. But I would like to return to Barcelona. It’s my home, but I still don’t know in what role, whether as coach, sporting director or something.”
Watching Iniesta’s further development will certainly be very interesting. After all, he is a wonderful footballer who is very popular with the fans. So it would certainly not be out of place if he embarks on a coaching career as he certainly has a lot to pass on.
Plus, he’s a man of good character. And there are never enough of them in the world, especially where young people are involved. But only practice will tell if he really has what it takes.
Many excellent footballers have burned out as coaches. The likes of Thierry Henry and Gary Neville could tell a story.
