Why is Schick staying at Leverkusen? The club has made it clear that it will play the Champions League and will not let anyone out of the squad, says Paska’s agent
Patrik Schick scored 24 goals in the Bundesliga last season, which puts him second in the scorers’ table behind the outclassed Robert Lewandowski. This is also why there was speculation about him leaving for better things, but instead a contract extension came up.
Patrik Schick scored 24 goals in the Bundesliga last season, which puts him second in the scorers’ table behind the outclassed Robert Lewandowski. That’s why there was speculation about him leaving for better things, but instead a contract extension came through and Schick will stay at the club at least until the winter. What did his agent Pavel Paska have to say?
Bayer Leverkusen finished a fine third in the 2021/22 season, helped significantly by Czech striker Patrik Schick, who scored 24 goals.
Only Robert Lewandowski has surpassed him, and Schick has also surpassed Erling Haaland, who is already a Manchester City player. Schick’s goalscoring prowess has attracted the interest of many big clubs.
In the end, however, the transfer did not happen, Schick extended his contract with the club and is now recovering from an operation he had been planning for some time.
“There were offers for Patrik, especially from England, something was also open in Spain, but both Leverkusen and Patrick and I knew we needed peace of mind. Leverkusen made it clear that they will play the Champions League, they won’t let anyone out of the squad.
And we solved it by extending Patrik Schick’s contract, of course under new conditions,” said Paska’s agent in an interview with Seznam Zprávy.
But the contract extension until 2027 means almost nothing. Schick may very well leave in the winter or next summer, because if he performs as well as he has so far, there will already be offers at another level.
