Martin Hašek was close to ensuring that no major scandal was unleashed. At the time, he went to Israel to accept an offer from Maccabi Haifa, but it was supposed to be lower than agreed, and so the transfer fell through.
When Martin Hašek Jr. decided not to travel with the team to the winter training camp in Spain, he triggered a long-lasting scandal that did not help either side.
But then everything could have been conveniently ended with his winter transfer. Sparta agreed to his departure and accepted Maccabi Haifa’s offer.
So the player travelled to Israel and all indications were that things could work out. Sparta would receive a relatively nice severance package and the player would be able to continue his career without any problems.
But it didn’t work out then. The Israeli club informed the public that the player’s demands were too high and demanded a higher financial reward than agreed.
No information came from the player’s side, and so the public had clear information that they demanded as the truth. However, Martin Hašek Sr. has now described in an interview with RED CARD how it should have been back then.
“Martin joined the B-team and planned to leave. He got permission to leave for a meeting at Maccabi Haifa and it didn’t work out there.
He had certain conditions agreed, he went for a medical, he was photographed in the jersey and then they went to negotiate the contract in the afternoon, there was almost half of what was agreed or what information he had from the agent.
Martin read it, took a piece of paper and started writing something on it, the athletic director asked him what he was writing and he said he was writing a counter proposal. He told him not to write it, that this was an offer and that’s how it was going to be. Martin replied that they couldn’t agree then and he said goodbye. Then he called me to say that they had not reached an agreement,” Hašek Sr. said.
Consequently, Hašek decided to unilaterally terminate the contracts, and the scandal that dragged on until this autumn began. Moreover, due to psychological problems, the player does not plan to continue with Turkish Erzurumspor, with whom he also did not jump into the winter training.
