Why did Zidane reject offers from Manchester United or PSG? In an interview, he revealed two reasons

Zinédine Zidane is a highly sought-after coach, and he shouldn’t be, having won the Champions League three times in a row with Real Madrid. However, he has been a free agent since last year and has not yet answered the call of big clubs like Manchester United and PSG.

The former French midfielder extraordinaire hasn’t had a long career at the highest level, at least not in a head coaching role, having coached just 263 games so far, all of them at Real Madrid.

However, in that short time he has managed to win a number of trophies, both club and individual, having been named the best coach in the world for the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons.

In short, Zidane knows what he wants and exactly what he wants. That’s one of the reasons why he didn’t accept the very first offer when he was waiting for the right moment. However, listening to his latest interview with L’Equipe, it seems that no other team than Real Madrid is the right one, at least for now.

So why has he turned down offers from Manchester United or PSG?

“Never say never. Especially when you’re a coach. When I was still a player, I could have chosen almost any club. But as a coach, I don’t have 50 clubs to go to. I only have two or three options,” Zidane said.

“If I accept an offer from a club, it’s to win. That’s why I can’t train anywhere. But it’s also for other reasons. For example, because of the language barrier. When people ask me if I want to go to Manchester, I say I understand English but I don’t fully speak it. And I know what I need to win,” explained the 50th birthday boy.

Zidane has also often been linked with taking over the French national team, but it hasn’t happened yet, but he admitted that he believes it will happen one day. I believe that one day I will be the coach of the French national team.”

Zidane undoubtedly has many offers this summer, but whether or not he will actually return to the craft in which he is truly exceptional will have to wait for another day.
