Marcus Thuram had many interested parties in the summer transfer period and could choose from some really prestigious addresses. PSG or AC Milan were very interested in his services, but Thuram chose Inter. Now the French striker has revealed why.
Thuram told his former employer, Borussia Mönchengladbach, before the summer transfer window started that he wanted to move elsewhere.
The French striker understandably had several suitors in the summer, as he scored 44 goals for the German side and assisted a further 29. For his qualities, he was approached by PSG and AC Milan.
In the end, however, it all ended very differently. It was already looking like Thuram would head to AC, but in the end he headed to the other Milanese big club based at the San Siro.
The Parma native has signed a long-term contract at Inter, which runs until the end of June 2028. He will earn around €6 million a year.
For Inter, the arrival of Thurram was like a godsend. After ending up at Mönchengladbach, he actually transferred as a free agent and, as the start of the new Serie A season has shown, he will be a very valid footballer for Simone Inzaghi’s selection.
Why did Thuram choose Inter?
Above all, though, fans have wondered why Thuram actually preferred Inter to AC and PSG. The 26-year-old Frenchman has now explained his reasons.
“I knew it wouldn’t be an easy choice because it would determine the direction of my career. But I know I made the right decision. Inter will help me settle into a central role. I had to learn new methods and I’ve improved a lot in the few months I’ve been here,” said Thuram, who was quoted by Football Italia.
Thuram also revealed that one of the reasons he eventually chose Inter was to work with striker Lautaro Martinez.
“Lautaro is one of the best strikers in the world. He is a very technical player and he can link up with his teammates.
I’m happy to play with him. Playing close to Alexis is also inspiring. He never gives up. The way Marko Arnautovic moves also inspires me. This is the perfect club to progress further, but there are still a lot of things I need to work on.”
“When we wear this jersey, we feel we are wearing history. Inter is one of the biggest clubs in Europe. I have come to a stable team that works well and that reached the Champions League final last year. They have great players and my choice was linked to all that,” he concluded.
