Why can’t the Citizens win the LM? They have no leaders and Guardiola doesn’t want personalities, says Evra

Manchester City have conquered the Premier League in recent years. But what the rich sheikhs want is the Champions League, which they can’t get. And that’s even though they’ve spent more than a billion euros on transfers since Pep Guardiola arrived in 2016

2016/17 – Eighth Final – Monaco
2017/18 – quarter-final – Liverpool
2018/19 – quarter-final – Tottenham
2019/20 – quarter-final – Lyon
2020/21 – Final – Chelsea
2021/22 – semi-final – Real Madrid

These are Manchester City’s results in the Champions League under Pep Guardiola. The most glaring is the last elimination, when the Citizens were still leading 5:3 on aggregate in the 90th minute of the rematch, but even a two-goal lead was not enough.

In such a situation, the team must be energized by the leader, at all costs not to allow the Citizens to score a second time in the setup. But Manchester doesn’t have any such in the team, which is criticized by Manchester United icon Patrice Evra.

“Manchester City need leaders, but Guardiola doesn’t want leaders. He doesn’t want players who have personality. He’s the leader. That’s why when they’re in trouble, they don’t want the ball and they don’t know what to do. They don’t have anyone on the pitch to help them,” Evra told Prime Video.

“That’s how he picks his teams, he can’t coach players with personality. He creates his teams that way to control everybody. When things go wrong, he always decides,” the former Manchester United and Olympique Marseille player added.

At the same time, Evra has also leaned on the whole club. According to him, money is the main motive behind players’ transfers to the Citizens.

“They remind me of PSG – it’s a club based on money. Real Madrid also has money, but there is a big history behind it. Manchester City only has money and players go there for that. Then, of course, they win trophies, but a player chooses the Citizens just because they offer you more,” the former France international added.
