The start of the English Premier League is just around the corner and this year the rules have also been changed or modified. Raphaël Varane had his say on social media and received support from a large number of fans and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand.

The second English league kicked off at the weekend and in just a few days we will see the Premier League as well. English football has seen several adjustments or rule changes in the pre-season. One of the most talked about ones is following the trend from the World Cup in Qatar

To make up for the time wasted when the pitch was not played on for various reasons, the minutes in the setup started to increase and it was not uncommon for a match to last over 100 minutes. This is exactly what will now become a reality in England

A Manchester United star has taken it upon himself to make a public statement in protest against this rule. Raphaël Varane revealed that last week there was a meeting with the Football Association during which the new rules were clarified and explained.

“For several years now, managers and players have shared the concern that too many games are being played, the schedule is overcrowded and this means a danger to the physical and mental health of footballers. Despite our views, longer matches will be played from the new season onwards and there will be a push for more intensity and less emotion shown,” read part of the French defender’s statement.

“We want to be in good shape on the pitch so that we can give 100% to our club and our fans. Why are our opinions not being heard? I am honoured to be able to do the job I love every day, but I feel these changes are damaging football. We want to be at the maximum level and perform at the best possible level every week,” Varane is clear.

Among other things, the former Real Madrid player noted that more should be done to listen to players and managers who point out various problems.

The Manchester United star was defended by club legend Rio Ferdinand, who argues that the right balance and solution needs to be found to suit all parties.
