The Brazilian Football Federation has officially announced the arrival of a new coach to its national team. After several negotiations, an agreement has been reached with current Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, who will take over the Brazilian national team after next season, when his contract at the Spanish club expires. Who will be his successor?

Club president Florentino Perez has a year to replace the strategist, who won the Champions League twice and a host of other trophies during his two spells at the royal club. The job will certainly not be easy.

Of course, among the names being bandied about is Zinedine Zidane, who can be said to be the most successful Real coach in at least the 21st century. However, the former midfielder is reportedly awaiting an offer from the French national team and his engagement is therefore unlikely.

Other names included Raúl González and Julian Nagelsmann. The former dazzles with his work in the youth of the royal club, the latter has already been approached by Real once and is currently up for grabs after his surprise sacking from Bayern Munich.

The favourite, however, is supposed to be Xabi Alonso. The Spanish coach took over a sinking Leverkusen in October 2022, and eventually pulled them out of relegation battles and into the European Cups. The German club also showcases fast and dynamic football under his leadership.

Xabi Alonso was even Ancelotti’s charge in the 2013/14 season, when they dominated the Champions League together. After that, the now former defensive midfielder moved to Bayern.

He played 236 games in a Los Blancos jersey and is still valued by the club today. Of course, speculation will continue until Pérez officially announces the Italian coach’s successor.

Alonso would fit well into the Madrid system as a coach, he knows the club’s environment and mood. We’ll have to wait until next summer to see if he takes a seat on the Real bench.
