PSG are 15 points ahead in Ligue 1, yet it is almost certain that Mauricio Pochettino will not continue as head coach. The Champions League debacle is mainly to blame. And Diego Simeone from Atlético Madrid is now being talked about as a possible replacement.

There is one fundamental rule at PSG. You can lead the league by 100 points or you can even finish second, nobody is that excited. But if you’re not successful in the Champions League, you can pack your bags.

Several coaches have been there, Thomas Tuchel was the first to lead Paris Saint-Germain to the final of the million-dollar competition. But he didn’t succeed, and so he said goodbye to Parc des Princes. He was replaced by Mauricio Pochettino, who crashed out in the semi-finals last year but was given a second chance.

And a packed one at that. Messi, Ramos, Donnarumma, Hakimi, Nuno Mendes, Wijnaldum, these were PSG’s summer signings. But the result? A fiasco. The Parisians have already crashed out in the eighth round against Real Madrid, currently the most hated opponent, because the relations of the management are at a standstill, mainly because of the Kylian Mbappé case.

And so, although Pochettino’s charges rule the league by 15 points, it is 99% certain that the Argentine coach will be looking for a new job from the summer. And French newspapers are already looking for a successor.

Who will be the stars’ new coach?

Zinedine Zidane, the currently free coach who rewrote history with Real Madrid, seems to be the best candidate. He would be the ideal coach for PSG, as he is not as strong in the league’s long-term competition, but he can prepare his team perfectly for key moments in the Champions League. Three Champions League titles in a row speaks for itself.

There is also talk of Tottenham’s Conte, Ajax’s Ten Hag and Juventus’ Allegri. But now France’s biggest newspaper, L’Equipe, has come up with one surprising name.

PSG are said to be interested in Atlético Madrid’s Diego Simeone. The well-known stormtrooper has been at the helm of the Colchoneros for 10 years, he has led the team to the Champions League final twice, to two La Liga titles, but in the current season there is talk in Spain that he may not have that much more to give to the team, the Rojiblancos are only in fourth place in the league and their performances are pretty poor.

El Cholo is under contract at the Wanda Metropolitano until 2024, but PSG would like to sign him from the summer. Simeone’s stay in Paris was already talked about in 2014, back then he still remained loyal to the red and white colours. How will it be now?
