Every Premier League team has a habit of announcing the best player of the year within the club. But who can Chelsea announce? The London team had a bad spring, now they are struggling in the autumn. So GOAL.com has come up with a ranking of the 28 best Chelsea players in 2023, the winner will surprise you.

10. Axel Disasi

The French defender joined Chelsea in the summer from Monaco as a replacement for the long-term injured Wesley Fofana. He took his chance brilliantly, scoring in his debut in the Liverpool net. He is a regular in Chelsea’s starting line-up, although he has only been at the club for a short time, he is in the top ten.

9. Thiago Silva

The Brazilian could easily be higher. In the spring it was he who was almost the only one in the team to pass some more stringent criteria. However, the start of the season didn’t go too well for him, he often looked frustrated, he didn’t catch on in the 4 defender system. However, when Pochettino called for a change of formation, back to 3 stoppers, he caught on again and is the leader even at the age of 39.

8. Moises Caicedo

Cost a whopping 116 million euros in the summer. Liverpool and Chelsea were overbidding for him. However, the Ecuadorian chose the London team. He fit into coach Pochettino’s system perfectly. He’s the engine of the midfield that N’Golo Kanté used to be. It seems like if he has played at the club for many years, his performances are something to build on for the near future.

7. Marc Cucurella

He didn’t do well last season. He barely played in the spring part of the season, he was mostly ignored on the bench, deservedly so it must be added. During the earthquake of the summer transfer window, not many Chelsea fans could imagine him staying in the team. In the end, no one reached for him and he had to stay. With injuries to James and Chilwell, he got on the pitch and didn’t waste chances. It looks like he could return to his old form.

6. Levi Collwil

He was a guest at Brighton last season. He has shown that he is a great talent and would definitely play in the starting line-up in a number of teams. Pochettino initially decided to use him as a fringe defender, the role didn’t suit him too well and he underperformed. It was only when he was switched back to stopper that he found his feet and started to put in great performances, helped by veteran Thiago Silva.

5. Mykhailo Mudryk

Mudryk came to Chelsea in the winter for a huge price tag. Great things were expected, and most importantly great stats. However, neither is the case, although his start at Chelsea wasn’t bad. The game against Liverpool when he came off the bench worked out well for him. He went round Liverpool players like a skittles, the fans hoped he would continue. He didn’t. He didn’t seem to find form until October when he scored 2 goals in a matter of minutes.

4. Raheem Sterling

The Englishman was expected to score goals and assists, which somehow didn’t arrive last season. His performances have picked up since the new season. Sterling seems to be at least similar to the one who bullied the opponents’ defences in Manchester City or Liverpool jersey. He has already registered 4 goals and 1 assist this season.

3. Enzo Fernandez

Another player who cost a lot of money. The Argentine came to Chelsea in the winter after a successful World Cup. However, he too was affected by the poor form of the whole team during the spring, although he tried to create, most of the time his teammates didn’t make anything out of it. He came alive with the arrival of Caicedo with whom he complements perfectly.

2. Conor Gallagher

Not many would have expected a Chelsea bred player this high. Mainly also because it looked like his departure during the summer. However, when the English midfielder survived the team’s shake-up, Pochettino began to build on him.

He got off to a slower start than expected but eventually it seemed to click. The Englishman has come on with the captain’s armband in some games and, along with Caicedo and Fernandez, forms a functioning Chelsea midfield.

1. Cole Palmer

A transfer that Chelsea are probably kissing their feet for. Palmer immediately lifted the team’s play upwards, he didn’t need any time to acclimatise and immediately slotted into the system and started delivering the performances that fans were used to from his time at Manchester City. In 12 games, he has notched 4 goals and 3 assists, making him clearly the team’s most productive man this season.
