Carlo Ancelotti’s future is on the line. According to media reports, he has a knife to his throat and if he doesn’t win the big trophy this season, he will be able to pack his bags. Who would appear to be the ideal replacement?

Real Madrid have entered the current season quite successfully. They won the European Super Cup right at the start of the season. This was followed by a run of fifteen games without a loss, of which the White Ballet won thirteen.

With the end of the World Cup and the restart of the season, Real Madrid seemed to run out of breath. Due to a relatively frequent illness and a demanding schedule, it began to struggle not only in terms of results but also in terms of play.

There has been speculation for some time about whether the Italian coach has a future at the club. However, lately an even bigger question mark has been hanging over him and it seems that if Real don’t win any major trophies, their paths will part.

Looking at the White Ballet’s current playing display, it is evident that a revival and a new impetus would be welcomed by the club. Who could become Carlo Ancelotti’s successor either next season or, if the Italian coach stays, beyond next season?

Mikel Arteta

At first glance, perhaps a surprising name. However, there have been reports in the media that the club’s management have started to monitor Arteta very closely and would be interested in his services. If Real were looking for a coach for next season, it is questionable whether Arteta would want to change jobs.

Arsenal are starting to thrive immensely under his leadership and his hard work and the order he has imposed is starting to show. So it would probably be too early to make a change.

Arteta himself has commented on all the speculation at the moment by saying that he is very happy at Arsenal and is only focused on the London club.

Raúl González

An absolute legend of the club and the second best goalscorer in history. He played 741 games for Real Madrid during which he won 16 trophies.

If engaged, the White Ballet would follow a similar path to the one they took with Zinedine Zidane. Raúl is still at the beginning of his coaching career and is gaining experience in the reserve team, which plays in the third highest Spanish competition.

Castilla are third in the table. The former striker is considered by many to be the greatest ever candidate for a first-team position.

Álvaro Arbeloa

A former footballer who started and basically finished his career at Real Madrid. The former defender leads the royal club’s under-19 youth team from the bench and has been extremely successful.

The youngsters shine under his guidance. They have not lost a single game. They’ve reached the Youth Cup final and are scoring 3.4 goals a game. Arbeloa, however, looks more like a possibility in the more distant future

Xabi Alonso

The current coach of Bayer Leverkusen, where he is in charge of Adam Hložek and Patrik Schick, among others.

This former defensive midfielder also linked his active playing years with Real Madrid, where he was for almost six years and made his mark in the hearts of the club’s fans.

He completed his coaching course in the same year as Raúl or Xavi and gained his first experience with Real Madrid’s under-14 youth team. He subsequently spent three years on the bench of Real Sociedad’s B-team.

In October last year, he took over the struggling Bayer Leverkusen. Xabi Alonso is among the selection of coaches closely monitored by the White Ballet management and considered as possible future first-team coaches.

Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with the club before. The Argentine, who is out of a job after the end of his engagement at PSG, once said that it would be an honour for him to lead such a club.

However, given Antonio Conte’s unclear future on the Tottenham bench, he is closer to returning to the Roosters’ bench.

Thomas Tuchel

The German coach is another world-renowned name without a commitment. Tuchel was last at Chelsea, where he won the Champions League.

However, the start of the current season has not seen Chesle in his current form. The club has suffered mainly from a forced sale and a change in management. Tuchel was later sacked and replaced by Graham Potter.

For Tuchel, the biggest question mark hangs over whether he could apply his favoured three-stopper formation at Real Madrid, who are not used to playing in this style. However, it could be just the impetus required and perhaps a welcome change.
