Who can the Czechs meet in the World Cup barrage? They will probably be unseeded
The Czechs have a lot to play for in their last qualifying match against Estonia. But it can also be completely useless. What are the prospects of Jaroslav Šilhavy’s charges for the spring barrage?
The Czechs have a lot to play for in their last qualifying match against Estonia. But it can also be completely useless. What are the prospects of Jaroslav Šilhavy’s charges for the spring barrage?
Thanks to Saturday’s win by France, the Czech national team is already assured of a barrier to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. However, they still do not know from which position they will go.
Either it will be in the draw as a seeded team, which would require several things to happen. The Czechs have to beat Estonia, Wales have to lose to Belgium, and the Czechs have to have a better record than Bale and co. However, even second place may not be enough for a seeded side.
At the same time, Jaroslav Šilhavy’s charges would have to finish among the top six teams from the second places across the qualifying groups. And that doesn’t look very promising. The Czechs can no longer leapfrog the teams from Groups A, B and C, which already have more points. The teams from groups F, G and H have also dug themselves enough points, but they will be deducted points against the last team, as the group contained 6 teams.
It can be assumed that the Czechs will be unseeded in the barrage. The barrage will be played in a group format with semi-finals and finals, one match each time. If the Czechs are unseeded, they will play the semi-finals on the opponent’s soil.
Possible seeded teams:
Sweden
Croatia
Poland
Switzerland
Scotland
Serbia
Possible unseeded teams:
Czech Republic
Norway
Wales
North Macedonia
Ukraine
Austria
