Viktoria Plzeň did it. After four years, it has once again advanced to the Champions League, having to fight its way through three preliminary rounds. Coach Michal Bílek was not hiding his joy.
Six matches in the preliminary rounds, five wins and one draw. Plzeň actually recorded enough points and cleared three tough opponents out of the way.
The win over Karabakh is all the more valuable because the visitors were leading 1:0 at half-time. However, the second half saw a masterful turnaround, with Kopic scoring first and then Kliment.
“It’s a pity that we didn’t take our chances right at the beginning and then we got a goal. I really appreciate the fact that the team didn’t give up. We achieved what we wanted. TheChampions League will be in Pilsen, that’s a huge success,” said coach Michal Bílek at the press conference.
“This team is a bunch of fighters who never give up and I am proud to coach them. We deserve to play in the Champions League,” Bílek is convinced.
“It was an awfully tough game considering the quality of the team that played against us. We started well, the fans were great, they drove us forward, but unfortunately we conceded at the end of the half, which brought us down a bit. It’s amazing that we managed to turn the game around against such a tough opponent,” said midfielder Pavel Bucha.
The Victorians can thus look for a stellar opponent in Thursday’s draw. They have already played Bayern, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid in their past participations.
