White has leaned into Ngannou! He doesn’t want to fight the best fighter of all time, instead he’ll fight easier fighters
Francis Ngannou has decided not to renew his UFC contract and is a free fighter. The popular heavyweight has been declaring this move for quite some time, as he doesn’t like the conditions in the most famous MMA organization in the world. Dana White is taking his demise hard and hasn’t forgotten to give him a good kicking.
Last January was the last time we saw Francis Ngannou in the cage. Back then, the French-Cameroonian fighter defeated Ciryl Gane on points and showed that he was the best heavyweight fighter.
Of course, not only after that, he widely criticized the UFC management and the set contracts, which are not very friendly for the fighters, not only in terms of financial terms.
That’s also why he made it clear that it’s not certain that he will renew in the UFC. His contract expires this January and it is now clear that there will be no extension.
Dana White revealed this at the press conference after the last tournament and made it clear his exasperation with the whole situation, which is largely behind him as well.
He leaned into Ngannou the way he does best. “We have been negotiating with Francis for two years. But even now he weighs over 300 pounds and has had knee surgery, so he would have a hard time jumping into real training.
I think all of this has a lot to do with how Francis made his decision. He himself doesn’t know when his knee will be right. Plus, he’s not getting any younger. I don’t think he’ll be able to jump into action in March. We can’t block the division because of him.
We’ve done everything we can to make a deal with him, but he thinks there are bigger chances and opportunities waiting outside the UFC with easier opponents. He had an offer to fight the best fighter of all time, and to do that he would be the highest paid heavyweight in UFC history.
However, he chose not to fight the best fighter of all time and to fight easier fighters instead.” he said at the press conference of the past UFC event.
