Barcelona’s management has a lot of work to do in the spring. With several players not having their future at the club sorted out, it will be a period of extending existing contracts. Which players are Barcelona counting on in the future?
Barcelona has undergone a noticeable generational change and the club’s contract extension policy is linked to this. The Catalan club is parting with older players, keeping only the experienced ones who have been with the club for many years and can thus pass on their experience to their young teammates.
And which players is Barcelona counting on for the next seasons?
Ousmane Dembélé
This French winger has made huge progress after the arrival of Xavi and is currently an indispensable part of Barcelona’s starting line-up. His unprecedented speed and audacity has successfully ventilated opposing defences, which is also reflected in his numbers.
Retaining him will be a priority for Barcelona. Given that Dembélé is keen to continue at his current club, this should not be too difficult a task for the management. However, negotiations with this player are not always easy.
Alejandro Balde
Alejandro Balde is one of Barcelona’s recent discoveries. Only 19 years old, the Spanish defender has impressed with his performances enough to push the experienced Jordi Alba out of the line-up. Barcelona therefore want to secure Balde on a long-term contract with significantly more lucrative terms.
Sergio Busquets
A big question mark hangs over the future of Sergio Busquets. It depends on the player himself, as Barcelona are still interested in the services of their captain. However, the Spanish midfielder is 34 years old and knows himself that his best performances are behind him. That’s why he is considering going overseas, but for now Busquets hasn’t made up his mind.
Sergi Roberto
Roberto is one of the captains and draws on his experience at the club. He has been at Barcelona since he was 14 years old and now has so much to offer the younger players. Unfortunately, he’s not the same footballing wise anymore and so fans see his role more in the cabin.
Inaki Pena
At twenty-three, Inaki Pena is still a young player. The goalkeeper, who spent last year on loan at Galatasaray in Turkey, is more of a promise for the future. Barcelona will thus want to offer him a new contract as well.
