The Czech football world is still amused or annoyed by the mistake that cost Sparta Prague their promotion to the next stage of the European Cups. However, it is time to move on. To Argentina. A rather curious goal was scored in the top competition there.
Sparta were knocked out of the cups after losing 1-2 to Viking Stavanger in Norway. The result was decided by a misunderstanding between defender David Hancock and goalkeeper Dominik Holc in stoppage time.
Hancko passed the ball to Holtz in a completely different place than where the Spartans goalkeeper was at the time. The Norwegian players could have easily taken advantage of that and they did. Thus, they not only gained a valuable scalp, but also a promotion.
Now, however, an unprecedented blunder has also taken place in the Argentine top flight. The 11th round is currently underway and Godoy Cruz and Velez Sarsfield have clashed. The latter is not in a good position and needs to finally win. They are on a seven-game winless streak.
However, in the match that took place on Friday night to Saturday, it did not start the journey to the desired win in a perfect way. In the third minute, they made a very curious goal after a mistake by goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos.
It is worth mentioning that Hoyos protested a lot against the goal after his mistake. This earned him a yellow card for unsporting behaviour.
Fortunately for him, the match did not end in a loss. In the 15th minute, the legendary Diego Godín, whom European football fans may remember from his time at Atlético Madrid, equalised the score at 1-1.
