For fifteen years he was one of the best stoppers in the world. But then Sergio Ramos left Real Madrid and his career at PSG was not so bright. Now the question is where his next steps will lead.
You’d find few bigger Real Madrid legends than Sergio Ramos. The long-serving captain is one of the club’s greatest icons, and has etched his name in the hearts of fans not only through his performances, but more importantly through his leadership, heart and commitment.
But time cannot be stopped and Ramos left the Santiago Bernabéu two years ago after completing his 35th birthday. He chose PSG as his next stop, but it took him a long time to recover and get into playing shape.
He had already played the past season more or less without any problems and put in solid performances, but the Parisian big club decided to go a different way from the summer. It no longer wants to rely on expensive stars, but rather on young home-grown talent.
Ramos has not been given a new contract and his future is still in doubt. One thing is certain, the 37-year-old stopper will not end his career yet.
There has been talk of him returning home to Sevilla, where he came up in adult football. But this was publicly rejected by vice-president José María Del Nido Carrasco, because the Europa League winners are currently suffering from financial problems and Ramos’ return is too expensive.
At the moment, according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ramos is choosing between two destinations. An offer from his friend and former teammate David Beckham, who owns the local Inter, has arrived from Miami.
In Florida, he would also meet former PSG teammate Lionel Messi and also former Spanish national teammate Sergio Busquets.
At the same time, however, Ramos, like almost every famous footballer currently looking for a new club, has an offer from Saudi Arabia. Logically, this represents the most generous financial reward, but not as relaxed a life as on the beach in Miami.
Ramos is said to be making his decision with his family, as he and his wife Pilar Rubio are raising four children.
