On Thursday evening, a transfer bombshell exploded when Barcelona announced that Lionel Messi would not be continuing in Catalonia. Immediately, speculation began about where he would be heading. The main candidates are PSG and Manchester City.

Lionel Messi is one of the best footballers in history and one of the two best players in the world of the last decade. And with him being a free agent, who wouldn’t want him, one would like to say.

But there are more or less only two clubs queuing up for Messi. Not everyone can afford to pay the Argentine’s astronomical salary, which, among other things, has driven Barcelona to the current crisis. That is why the 34-year-old footballer is probably choosing between PSG and Manchester City.

On the face of it, a move to the Citizens would make more sense. The Rosario native would reunite with his favourite coach Guardiola, and with De Bruyne and co. he would form an incredible team where he would fight for all the trophies. And there’s one more thing.

In comparisons with Ronaldo, it is often mentioned that the Portuguese has conquered the top three competitions, while Messi has only succeeded in one. Now he could prove that he has no problem making it in England.

But on the same day, Manchester City brought in Jack Grealish for £100 million. On top of that, they offered him a salary of £320,000 a week, making him one of the highest paid players in the team and the league. And he’s still eyeing up Harry Kane, who would also come for over £100m.

So fitting Messi into all of this would not be entirely easy financially. Therefore, PSG seems to be the most realistic option. The French giant seems to have foreseen this situation and has only brought in players for free at the end of their contracts, apart from Hakimi for 60 million.

However, very high quality, so that Messi, alongside Ramos, Donnarumma, Neymar or Mbappe, could once again think about the Champions League trophy, for which he has been waiting in vain since 2015.

According to Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari, Messi is already in contact with PSG. So will one of the best footballers in history head to Paris to finish his career?
