The Light heavyweight division has been quite unstable in recent months. The champions change like on a treadmill, the last two additionally due to serious injuries. Now there’s a chance that things might finally settle down a bit.
Jiri Prochazka has been promised a title fight immediately after his return and when Jamahal Hill got injured, it was clear that one of the pair Jan Blachowicz – Alex Pereira would face him. The latter celebrated his victory at the weekend.
While he wasn’t the better fighter early on, the Pole went for the physicality and it all ended 2-1 on points. He can look forward to facing his opponent from Brazil again.
Now it is only a question of when we will actually see them fight each other. Both need time to prepare and Procházka is only getting close to being healthy enough.
“I don’t think it will be Abu Dhabi in October. More realistically it looks like New York in November, which would be good, but most likely it will be December in Las Vegas.
We’ll see in the next few days how we can negotiate a place and date with the UFC,” his coach Martin Karaivanov told Sport.cz.
So we will have to wait a week for the announcement. At the moment there is no need to hurry, the most important thing is that there is no injury that would cancel the fight.
