Jiří Procházka is coming back from a bad shoulder injury. We still don’t know the date when he’ll try to steal Jamahal Hill’s belt, but according to UFC President Dana White, we’ll see an official announcement soon.
Jiri Prochazka was injured in late 2022. At the time, he was supposed to defend the belt against Glover Teixeira, but his shoulder wouldn’t allow the fight and the UFC continued to run the division as if the Czech had never been champion.
Now he is Jamahal Hill and he should be his next opponent. The winner of this fight will be the rightful holder of the UFC’s welterweight belt. But when will we see this fight?
“Jiri is ready to fight. Definitely not waiting for Jiri now because he’s ready. It’s more of a matter of looking for a place now,” said Tim Simpson, Prochazka’s foreign manager, in an interview with journalist Ariel Helwani a few weeks ago.
The situation seems to be that the UFC has already scheduled the main fights for the next big tournaments, and although there could certainly be two on the card, it would be better for the organization to have this fight later, as millions of fans are waiting for it.
“I think we’ll be wiser in early July when UFC 290 takes place. That’s when it’s going to get going. But Jiri is 100%. The UFC has confirmed to us that they are clearly planning a Hill vs. Prochazka fight, so I’m not really worried about that,” he said, adding that September is the most likely time.
Dana White himself weighed in on the situation, as he was asked at the post-UFC 290 press conference when we’ll get news on the fight. “Very soon. We’ll be announcing it soon. It’ll be out soon, ” he said.
He didn’t give any further details, so we’ll just have to wait and see. All that is certain is that the announcement itself will create quite a stir. Fans from all over the world will want to see whether Prochazka will confirm his qualities or fall for the first time in the UFC.
