England will be in Germany to try and capture the European Championship for the first time in their history. Their greatest achievement so far is the silver medal from 2021, when they lost on penalties to Italy in the final. This year, it is considered a prime candidate for gold, as confirmed by the Opta supercomputer’s predictions.
Team roster
Jordan Pickford will be the goalkeeper as usual. He has kept thirteen clean sheets in the Everton jersey in the past season, only David Raya from Arsenal was more successful. The Spaniard, however, had considerably less to do during the season.
He will be backed up by Dean Henderson and Aaron Ramsdale. The former had a relatively successful season at Crystal Palace, while Ramsdale didn’t do much at Arsenal and will probably find a new employer in the summer.
In defence we can find a large number of experienced players. Apart from Kyle Walker, Lewis Dunk, Luke Shaw, Kieran Trippier and John Stones are also in the nomination. They will be joined by Marc Guehi, Joe Gomez and Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa.
In midfield, Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice, who can operate in a huge area, will probably feature alongside each other. They will be complemented by youngsters Adam Warthon and Kobbie Mainoo, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Gallagher also missing.
Probably Albion’s biggest strength will be their attacking force – Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer. Not forgetting the creative wingers Phil Foden, Eberechi Eze, Anthony Gordon and Jarrod Bowen.
Of course, Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney will also fight for their chance to make it big. This is a very strong roster that probably commands the respect of all opponents.
England will play Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia in Group C. A squad made up primarily of Premier League players is expected to progress seamlessly from the top spot. Will Albion break the curse of the European Championships and win their maiden title?
