After a two-week national break, our series of interesting facts from the world of English football returns. In the eighth episode, we take a brief look at the criticism of Tomáš Souček, we also give space to Aston Villa and Leicester.

Leicester chase unimaginable shame

In the autumn, Leicester’s crisis was incomprehensible and humorous, but now the situation surrounding the participants of the last two editions of the European Cups is getting serious. Leicester are second to last, and nobody understands why.

With a similar squad, the club has struggled in the Europa and Conference leagues in the past. Even now, James Maddison is in such form that he is being nominated for the England squad. Along with Youri Tielemans, Harvey Barnes and Kelechi Iheanacho.

In addition, the Foxes have made some very interesting signings this winter. Tete or Harry Souttar, however, do not yet appear to have the experience to fight fiercely for survival.

Leicester can’t handle the end of games, losing draws in April against both Crystal Palace and Aston Villa at the very end. It may seem like just two points, but they would move him up to 15th in a crowded table

Don’t write off the Villans!

We’ve already mentioned Unaie Emery’s spell in this series and after the holiday break, it’s becoming fully apparent that there’s another outsider in the game for surprise trophies alongside Brighton, Brentford and Fulham. Two wins have ensured a move into seventh place.

And they were wins in which Emery’s squad showed character. First at Chelsea, when they defended all their chances and struck twice at Stamford Bridge, then in the week they beat a weakened Leicester in the final minutes.

The struggle for the Top 7 on the other hand is not so surprising, the Villans have had a cup winning squad since the start of the season, only Steven Gerrard has failed to ideally identify the core of the squad. But now Emery is operating, who even with a mediocre Villarreal won the Europa League.

Soucek is no longer enough

That West Ham fans insult Tomas Soucek after losses is not surprising. The captain of the Czech national team this season is not performing as he did in previous seasons, and he has also lost a lot of productivity. This time, they even took on the ex-Slav player after a 1:0 win over Southampton.

Soucek seems to be losing speed. Suddenly, he is not everywhere, he is not even able to move into the attack and his possibility of being used has decreased significantly. He has lost the two factors that made him important.
