What’s the talk in the Premier League: Ederson’s role as a substitute in Qatar, the Devils can’t get away with away games

There were seven bullets in Liverpool on Sunday as there were in Sarajevo. In the sixth part of our weekly column, in which we analyse interesting facts from the world of English football, we will focus exclusively on the shocking result of the Liverpool vs. Manchester United match. There were seven bullets in Liverpool on Sunday as there were in Sarajevo. In the sixth part of our weekly column, in which we analyse interesting facts from the world of English football, we will focus exclusively on the shocking result of the Liverpool vs. Manchester United match. But before that, we’ll take a look at last year’s Premier League champions.

Ederson’s upset

Manchester City won rather sovereignly against Newcastle on home soil, but goalkeeper Ederson Moraes impressed in the opening minutes with two very inaccurate clearances. He looked nervous and uncomfortable, as he has for most of the season.

Ederson, meanwhile, is one of the goalkeepers with the best kicking technique. According to the British media, he was upset when Tite, the coach of the Brazilian national team at the World Cup in Qatar, favoured Liverpool’s Alisson Becker between the three sticks.

The Manchester goalkeeper has the fewest saves of all the league leaders, but this is related to the few shots he faces. On the other hand, the 57.1 save success rate is the second worst among England’s elite after Gavin Bazun, which is indeed not a good look for the Citizens’ bump.

Liverpool’s TOP 4 digs

Many scenarios were offered before this weekend’s round robin between Liverpool and Manchester United, but none of them counted on a 7-0 result. The home side secured the triumph moments after the sides changed sides, then their opponent made it easy for them.

The Reds really needed a win against one of their main rivals. Leaving aside the terrible half-time against Real Madrid, the last weeks have been going well for Jürgen Klopp’s charges, but the scalp of a real giant was missing.

Now Liverpool have managed to take on a hated rival who have lost just once since the Qatar World Cup. Suddenly Klopp’s men are fifth, three points behind Tottenham and with a game to spare. Experts and impartial fans of English football agree, Liverpool will knock off the Top 4. And looking at the squad, it would be a shame if it failed to do so.

The Devils’ tragedy in away games

For the Red Devils, the seven-goal haul is a disgrace, but at the same time, not something new. Away from home, they have already taken a beating this season at the Etihad Stadium (3::6), the Emirates (2::3) and defensively the performance at Camp Nou (2::2) was not even 100%.

The title talk, which grew more frequent with each win in February, is gone with a bang. Not so much because of the result of Sunday’s derby, but rather with regard to the attitude of the Manchester players in a determined state. The most common phrase among British pundits in relation to the debacle, “They threw in the towel”, is really apt this time.
