What’s going on with the worst team in the Premier League at the moment? Leicester pulling down a rusty Rodgers

Leicester City have logically only gone downhill after winning the Premier League. However, since that memorable celebration, which surprised the world, a number of big events have happened, which of course have had an impact on the current situation, where the Foxes are languishing with a single point in last place in the league table. What’s going on and when will fans have reason to celebrate again?
The last league game against Manchester United was a perfect demonstration of how the Premier League, indeed any professional football game, is definitely not meant to be played. A complete waste, a dislike. The energy and passion that made them sensationally dominate the Premier League in the 2015/16 season seemed to have vanished from the Foxes players.
The reason? It is quite clear, the financial situation of the club was not favourable and the management had to sell. Supposedly for the sake of long-term stability, which apparently translates to the owners wanting to save money, which is hardly surprising given the very uncertain times.
Just can you imagine Manchester City last season without Ruben Dias and Kevin De Bruyne? Maybe so, but the question is whether it would have been enough to win the title…
Still, Brendan Rodgers shouldn’t complain when he has the 8th most valuable squad in the Premier League at his disposal. The performances, however, are far from matching that. However, transfers are a known Achilles heel for the 49-year-old coach, who doesn’t take well to these situations.
Remember the 2014/15 season, before which he sold Luis Suárez to Barcelona. Liverpool finished 6th after a brilliant second place finish when they were reaching for the title. Many of you will remember Steven Gerrard’s slip up. The following season then Rodgers lasted at Anfield only until the 4th of October before he was sacked.
Just as he couldn’t come to grips with the departure of the Uruguayan hitman when he couldn’t find an adequate replacement, whereupon Raheem Sterling then also ran away, which was the beginning of the end for him at Liverpool, he is having trouble coming to grips with the departures of key players now at Leicester.
“I fully trust the management on this when they say we can’t buy new signings. It’s frustrating, but I respect that.”
Rodgers has made no secret of the fact that he would like to strengthen some positions, but that was passé after Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha’s comments and so he has to make do with what he has. It must be noted that except perhaps for the wingers, he has an excellent team, which of course is matched by the aforementioned value in the market.
There may be more problems, of course, but if Rodgers wishes to remain on the Foxes bench, he should do something quickly with players who look rather committed on the pitch. A run of five league losses in a row broke the neck of even Claudio Ranieri back then.
And as if fate had favoured it, as the penultimate league game the Italian coach took the Foxes to was against Manchester United, who won 3-0 at the time. The very last one was with Swansea 2-0. After that came losses to Millwall and Sevilla. That didn’t carry the lead anymore and Ranieri went.
Rodgers is now the big favourite to be sacked according to the bookies. But things change very quickly in the Premier League. The winning streak could start as soon as Sunday against Brighton. After that, the Foxes welcome Aston Villa and it is this game that could be the turning point as even Gerrard’s probability of being out of a job soon is high.
