It looks like a done deal. Polish striker Robert Lewandowski is set to head to Barcelona, where his goals should help the club return to the elite. Javi Martínez gave an interesting explanation for this surprising move.
Lewandowski is said to be frustrated that he has not yet won the Ballon d’Or. Although he has been one of the top contenders to win it several times, it has always gone to someone else.
“I think it is likely that Lewandowski will play for Barcelona,” said his former teammate Javi Martínez in an interview with El Larguero.
Then Martínez came up with an interesting idea.”I think he believes that if he had played earlier in Spain, he would have already had the Ballon d’Or. Maybe even two,” Martínez added.
It is true that the closest he has come to winning the Ballon d’Or in the last two years has been Robert Lewandowski. The first time, however, it was not awarded at all because of the covida, then Lionel Messi received it.
It cannot be expected that Lewandowski’s main motivation for moving to Barcelona was to win the Ballon d’Or. After all, the Polish striker is 33 years old and his contribution to the team will not be the same as he gets older. Anyway, the transfer itself is still in the negotiation phase.
