At the Tournament of Champions she reached the doubles final alongside Katerina Siniakova, which unfortunately the Czech players did not make it. She then moved to Glasgow for the BJK Cup, where Barbora Krejcikova was supposed to be the mainstay of the Czech team. Suddenly, however, comes the news that divided the tennis public for a while, Krejčíková excuses herself from the tournament at the last minute.

She played a total of 79 singles and doubles matches last season. It was a bit less than in 2021. Injuries, which plagued the Czech player throughout the year, were mainly to blame.

Today, the current 21st player in the singles rankings met with journalists and the questions were of course mainly about her non-participation in the BJK Cup. So what actually happened?

“I really wanted to play, I always like to represent, whether it was the Olympics or the BJK Cup in Prague last year. I used to love playing team competitions for the Czech Republic. Unfortunately, this year it wasn’t possible because I got injured and the doctors told me not to try anymore, so I wouldn’t risk a long break again, ” Krejčíková told iDnes in an interview.

The 26-year-old has been limited by a wrist injury for a long time, which is still inflamed and she will not be playing tennis anytime soon. The decision not to be part of the BJK Cup has caused a big stir among the tennis public.

“During the flight, I still thought it might be possible, but then the results of the examination came. I sent them to the doctors and to Glasgow, and we discussed whether it was playable or not. They told me no,” Krejcik said

In the current season, the Brno native managed to win two WTA tournaments. But she was more successful in doubles, where she won three Grand Slam titles (Australian Open, Wimbledon, US Open) alongside Siniakova.

When the former world number two will return to the courts again is still uncertain. But Krejcikova hopes that the injury will heal quickly and she will be able to start the new season, which begins in January with a tournament in Australia.
