The third round of the English Premier League kicks off on Saturday at 13:30, with the main showpiece taking place at Old Trafford, where Liverpool will visit. What else to look forward to on the penultimate weekend of the holiday season?

Manchester vs Liverpool for the first win

The Red Devils have started the season miserably, no need to elaborate on that. However, Liverpool, who have drawn twice and are only two points better off, remain a little behind. In doing so, they played Fulham and Crystal Palace, clear outsiders at first glance.

Even in Monday’s match with Manchester City, Jürgen Klopp’s charges will be clear favourites and cannot afford a loss, on the other hand, even Erik ten Hag is under a lot of pressure. To start with three losses on the bench of such a famous club could mean a sacking.

A clash of iconic coaches

There are four games on Saturday from four o’clock, of which Crystal Palace’s clash with Aston Villa stands out. An ordinary match a few years ago may entertain this year, after all both teams are playing watchable football and have ambitions for the top eight.

It will also be an interesting confrontation given both benches. Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira will be sitting on the home side, while Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard will be on the away side. Two excellent midfielders, even some of the best in the history of the league.

Newcastle’s first test

A reinvigorated Newcastle have extracted four points from the first two rounds. Firstly, a dominant performance gave newcomer Nottingham Forest no chance, and in the second round they won a valuable draw on the south coast against Brighton.

Now it’s the first game to show the true quality of the team. One hundred percent Manchester City is the biggest favourite for the title and after two rounds has a score of 6: 0. But Newcastle can do well at home and will certainly not give the champion anything for free.
