Arsenal need a topstriker
After Fulham, the Gunners drew 2-2 with Tottenham. Again at home, again they were in control of the game. But this time they missed several promising chances. That’s why once again the question arises whether the squad is missing a classic striker.
You would think that after previous seasons, Mikel Arteta already understands Eddie Nketiah’s position. A good joker, he’s played a decent few games in the base but lacks consistency of performance. Still, he was given more space than the productive Leandro Trossard in the early part of the season.
Gabriel Jesus threw away huge chances last year, which he didn’t make up for with honest play with his back to goal. Against Spurs, he again missed a chance that could have calmed the team down at 1-0. There is a story about Ivan Toney, who will be banned in the winter.
Rodri helped Arsenal to their feet
Arsenal are already four points behind Manchester, with a return match in two rounds.
The Gunners have two aces up their sleeve – the home environment and the absence of the opponent’s key man Rodri, who will be serving a red card.
A midfield without him is never that solid, Kalvin Phillips burnt out against Newcastle in the week, trusting Mateo Kovacic would be risky to say the least. Pep Guardiola can surprise anyway.
Luton sovereignly the weakest
Perhaps that’s a risky statement after Sheffield got an eight from Newcastle. However, the Blades have played very good games against Manchester City, Tottenham and Crystal Palace. Luton were happy to get a draw against ten men Wolves at the weekend.
The midfield and attack lacked experience and quality, and no one brought a surprise solution against a clogged defence. Wolves had a long shorthanded game to win, defending more stoutly until late on when Luton caught their second wind after a converted penalty.
