A possibly pivotal weekend in the title fight is in the past. With six rounds to go in the Premier League, Manchester City are top of the table and we’ll be looking at that in our weekly series. We’ll also take a look at Everton’s 0-6 loss at Chelsea.

Manchester City moved up to the top of the table after losses to Arsenal and Liverpool, beating Luton Town 5-1 at home. They have a two-point lead on both rivals in the table and the consensus in England is that they will not let go of first place.

The Citizens will kick on

Manchester clearly has the easiest lot of the three candidates, moreover Liverpool do not seem to be in a title mood at the moment. Arsenal still await Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United, with only the Blues hosting at Emirates Stadium.

The Citizens have games against Wolverhampton, Brighton, Nottingham, Fulham and West Ham. The biggest scare then is the game at Tottenham’s ground, where they have a terrible record under coach Pep Guardiola.

In any case, Manchester has all the trump cards up its sleeve in terms of the width of its squad, its quality, its experience and the aforementioned lot. Plus the not inconsiderable factor that Guardiola handles the end of seasons 100%.

Everton have to work hard

The Toffees got a six in Monday’s replay at Stamford Bridge, were on fire defensively and were traditionally plagued by unproductivity in attack. They are just two points clear of the relegation zone from 16th place and will welcome 17th-placed Nottingham at home this weekend.

The opponent is definitely in better form, the only thing working in Everton’s favour is that Nottingham have long benefited mainly from the home atmosphere. Had Everton not won, they would have had a tough time of it. Arsenal or a derby with Liverpool await them.
