What kind of defence could come up against Sweden? Holeš and Krejci also have a say
Coach Jaroslav Šilhavý has already announced his nomination for the barrage match with Sweden or Poland. The biggest question will be in the defence, where there is not a single player who played at the Euro.
Coach Jaroslav Šilhavý has already announced his nomination for the barrage match with Sweden or Poland. The biggest question will be in the defence, where there is not a single player who played at the Euro.
There are 5 defenders for the Czech team at the Euro, namely Vladimír Coufal, Ondřej Čelůstka, Tomáš Kalas, Jan Bořil and Pavel Kadeřábek.
Now, the team of coach Jaroslav Šilhavy is preparing for the barrage against Sweden and, if they win, Poland, but none of these players will play for sure.
Kadeřábek decided to end his national team career due to his health and family, the rest are injured. The coaching team will have to put together a completely different defence.
But the problem is that many of the players who would have been under consideration are also injured. There are a total of five players on the roster, Jakub Brabec, Ales Matějů, Tomáš Petrášek, David Zima and Jaroslav Zelený.
However, it is clear that one more defender will be donominated, Milan Havel is expected, as there are only two fringe players in the squad.
Moreover, it is very likely that a midfielder will be withdrawn as well. Tomáš Holeš and Ladislav Krejčí Jr. are the options for a stopper, the first one used to play right-back. Lukáš Masopust can also play that position.
So what could the line-up for Sweden look like? With the current nomination, it looks like Masopust should play right-back.
Next to him could be stoppers Brabec and Holeš, and on the left Matějů, who will almost certainly not be missing from the lineup, although he plays more on the right side.
