What is the Czech Republic’s chance to qualify for the 2022 World Cup? The statistics sound a bit harsh!

While the Czech football public and the players themselves relatively welcome the 2022 World Cup barrage, the statistics server Gracenote Sports does not trust our football team very much. However, the positive fact is that statistics do not decide in football. On the other hand, it is interesting to know where we stand before the match against Sweden from a neutral perspective.

Overall, we can be really happy with the draw of the barrage! The road to the final tournament could have been much thornier. First we will face Sweden in an away game, if we advance we will face the winner of the Russia-Poland duel.

But even if we get past the northerners, we will go out for the final barrage match! So just the fact that we have to overcome two outdoor environments and two hostile atmospheres to advance is a relative complication. At least in terms of statistics.

One might assume that the Czech media would put the Czech Republic as a slight favourite against Sweden, but is that true? The statistics see it differently!

Advancing past Sweden is supposed to be only 36% possible for us, while the statistics show the remaining 64% for the northerners.

And that the Czechs will be in Qatar for the final tournament? Here, the statistics logically give us an even smaller chance, namely 18%.

In the long run, however, the Czech team and the ordinary Czech fan are more comfortable with the position of a slight underdog than going into the game as a clear favourite.

Anyway, it would be a sensation to see the Czech Republic back at the World Championship after many years, the road will not be rosy, but it is not unbeatable either.
